Gateway

The Gateway region is a bustling area that is known as the "Gateway to Freedom". It is the home of Liberty State Park and Ellis Island, where millions of immigrants discovered a new beginning. The region's diverse culture is reflected in its institutions and in the fabric of its towns.

Liberty State Park, located in Jersey City, overlooks the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The acres of greenery are a popular place to stroll along the Hudson River. Nearby one will find the Liberty Science Theater, where the nation's largest IMAX Dome Theater is located. And if nature is what you enjoy, you can also visit the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens in Upper Montclair or the Branch Brook Park.

If you're looking for more excitement and action, you can cheer for your team at the Meadowlands Complex which hosts four professional sports teams: the NBA's New Jersey Nets, the NHL's New Jersey's Devils, and both the New York Giants ands New York Jets of the NFL. The complex includes thoroughbred racing at Meadowlands Racetrack, and the New Jersey Metro Stars soccer team also calls the Meadowlands home. A number of shopping centers and restaurants are located within the Meadowlands Complex. Outside of the Meadowlands one will find many unique shopping malls and outlets in Millburn, Montclair, Ridgewood, and around the area.

To get an even better experience for the cultural diversity in this region one can visit museums such as Tenafly's African Art Museum, the Zimmerli Art Museum in New Brunswick, or the Newark Museum. Millburn's renowned Paper Mill Playhouse and the award-winning George Street Playhouse are two excellent venues for live theater entertainment.
